I hope your inbox enjoyed a couple weeks of peace and quiet, but we’re back baby! It was great to get out of town for a bit. I spent a few days at the Gospel Kids Conference outside of Toronto, and had a great time meeting new friends, hearing about new ministries, and learning from lots of great leaders across the church. The speaker lineup was great across the board, and the hospitality they rolled out for folks was off the charts. If you’re considering a conference next year, I’d keep these guys on your radar (and maybe start working on your passport).
From there it was off to Pensacola, Florida with the family. We couldn’t have asked for a better week of weather, and for the first time I can remember we didn’t have to find an urgent care for any sick kids. Huzzah! We ate seafood, got beat up by waves (my shoulder’s still sore!), ran through beachside obstacle courses, partied at the pool, and saw the Blue Angels scream by us at 750mph. The week was decidedly a win!
Unfortunately, all vacations have to come to an end. So I hit the ground running once we were back to get to work on our new season of Press Pause with Kevin and Jared. If you follow us on IG, you’ve probably already seen the ramp up of activity leading to the season two trailer drop, our newly remastered season 1 (much less overbearing background music!), and a launch date for season two. Click that big beautiful button below to give the trailer a listen and get a sneak peak of what we’ve got in store for season 2! Spoiler alert: It’s gonna be GREAT!
We’re working on some book giveaways that’ll coincide with the launch of the new season, so stay tuned here and on our IG feed to stay up to date on those. It feels like forever since our little podcast launched three years ago, but we’re excited to see it come back to life. We hope it’s a blessing to you and your family as you explore the big truths of the gospel together. Get subscribed wherever you get your pods so you don’t miss any of the episodes.
Catch Up (Kids Ministry, Devotional)
The podcast extravaganza continues! When we launched Press Pause all those years ago, none of us knew what we were doing. We borrowed a studio, downloaded some free software, and fumbled our way through an edit pouring over YouTube videos and scrolling through subreddits. It wasn’t pretty, but we got it down. Some of your guys left feedback (thanks for the reviews!), and we listened. We found a professional editor to go back through the first season of the pod to remaster each episode. I still hate the sound of my own voice, but hopefully it’ll sound better to you. Whether you’re new to the pod, or want to give season 1 a re-listen to catch up, the entire eleven episode run of the first season of Press Pause is available for you to enjoy. Show us some love with a review on Apple or Spotify to help us get the word out!
Fatherhood Wisdom (Parenting, Discipleship)
Who would’ve guessed we’d have another podcast featured in the podcast extravaganza? Oh, you could? Great, you’re catching on. Jon Tyson, author of The Intentional Father, was featured on CT’s The Bulletin podcast this week. With Father’s Day right around the corner (get those steaks ready!), it was great to hear from him on a wide range of topics about fatherhood. There’s some overlap with his book in the interview, but there’s plenty of wisdom that speaks to our current cultural moment as well. Tyson gives a wealth of encouragement, insight, and wisdom for what it looks like for fathers to parent well (especially raising sons). Hope it’s a gift to all you dads out there.
Podding VBS (Kids Ministry, Parenting)
Let the pods continue!!! The Village Church run a podcast called God’s Big Story that offers resources for parents as they’re discipling their kids at home, in the car, or anywhere they’ve got a phone. This week, they’ve put together daily episodes to bring VBS to your house. Each episode is around twenty minutes long, and they’re unpacking all your family needs to know about the Bible—it’s truth, origin, and central focus (with two more episodes to come). If you’re looking for something to add into your long summer day rotation, this is a great way to block off twenty minutes and help your kids learn about the Bible at the same time. They’ve got plenty of old episodes (VBS and otherwise) that will serve you family as well. Dig in and enjoy!
Dad Jokes
It’s Father’s Day this weekend, so what better way to celebrate that immortalizing the first (perhaps the greatest?) dad joke the world has ever known? Paired with the road trip, this is the ultimate comic combo.
Thanks for creating and distributing discipleship content for parents and families.
